Nerys- Active Graffiti Evolvement

Transforming tags into community murals

About Me

I’m Nerys, a multidisciplinary artist based in Aotearoa & Cymru.
I run Active Graffiti Evolvement (A.G.E) creating murals for councils & clients, & hosting graffiti workshops for youth. I was recognized nationally for my works as Te Manu piirere, Emerging Māori Artist by Creative NZ at the Te Waka Toi Awards in 2018.
My works are heavily influenced by the social injustices created by Colonization from both a māori/cymraeg perspective. My intentions with Art is to restore indigenous histories & knowledge, & to weave the worlds of fine & applied art together.
I focus on creating bodies of works that reflect on Māoridom, Cymraeg culture, authentic native history & how it relates to local geography. I portray this through various forms including Printmaking, Karawhiti/Graffiti, whakairo/carving, portraits, papawīra/skateboards, Rauemi/resources, and kākahu hanga rua mā te ringa/handmade clothing using recycled materials.
I look forward to developing further in my creative journey.
