Alex Duncan grew up in Swansea where the sea and surrounding coastal landscape has played an important influence on his work. He trained at Swansea College of Art and the Royal College of Art (Sculpture), now teaching on Fine Art; Studio, Site and Context (BA) and Contemporary Dialogues (MA) at UWTSD in Swansea. <\/p>\n
Making work that intersects sculpture, drawing, video and installation, his work has been exhibited both in the UK, notably the Whitechapel Gallery, V&A, MOSTYN, Camden Arts Centre and Ferens Art Gallery; and Internationally, including Milan, Italy; Bilbao, Santander; Spain and Mauritius. <\/p>\n
His work is held in international private collections and several major public collections including the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. <\/p>\n
In 2012 he was awarded the Joseph Hermann Award at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, in 2015 a Royal Society of Sculptors Bursary and in 2020 a Henry Moore Foundation Artist Award Grant. <\/p>\n
For 10 years, whilst living in London, Alex co-directed Artlacuna a not-for-profit, artist-led studios, project space and darkroom.
